The grandchildren had been after us for awhile to "when can we go to Africa".  The summer of 2012 seemed like a good time since the youngest was now 8 years old and a similar age to when our own children made their first journey to East Africa. With lots of planning ahead it was also one of the few times we thought we could get the whole family together at one moment in time.

Four separate  camps (two in Kenya and two inTanzania) and a night at Giraffe manor outside Nairobi proved to be the perfect choice and I appreciate all the long hours of planning JoAnn did. This is a short video of some of the
highlights of the animal encounters.

This full length video of our 10 person family trip shows the lodging, vehicles, activities and fun we all had as well as highlighting the wildlife and scenery. Our youngest was even tracked down by the rangers and their bloodhound anti-poaching unit. They learned to make and shoot a bow and arrow as well as to make fire.
This was just before the High season and we selected smaller camps. This allowed for a more intimate experience with fewer competing vehicles as well as a somewhat more economical one. Many times we were the only ones in the camp and we always had two vehicles for ourselves. On many occasions we were the only ones around. It can still be done!
